Our Purity Residue Clean (PRC) tobacco program uses environmentally friendly cultivation practices. PRC tobacco is grown using only certain fertilizers and pesticides which break down quickly. After the tobacco cures in the barns, sample testing is done to ensure that there are no detectable residues of the fertilizers or pesticides.
Farmers working to join our Organic growing program sometimes begin with PRC farming. It takes four years of farming without using any fertilizers or pesticides forbidden by the National Organic Program to make their fields ready for organic farming.
Leaf Selection
We have our own in-house leaf experts, the most knowledgeable in the industry. Our leaf experts know the ins and outs of inspecting, weighing, measuring for moisture content – much of what makes high-quality tobacco. But that isn’t the most important part of their job. They work with our farmers to improve their growing practices and provide the highest quality whole leaf tobacco. They visit our farmers throughout the growing season to help them find earth-friendly solutions to complex farming issues.
